Hosted by Friends of the Riverfront and Allegheny CleanWays, Litter League is a 6-week annual competition for Allegheny County’s best litter picking teams! In its first three seasons, the Litter League has collected a grand total of 139,627.5 pounds of litter in Allegheny County.
- Compete in 3 litter kickin’ tournaments in communities across Allegheny County
- Complete trashy challenges to earn points for your squad
- Challenge a rival team to a litter pickin’ showdown
- Organize cleanups using a garbage hot spot map

Northside 412 Redder Uppers
Earning 10 points on the season, The 412 Redder Uppers excelled in every aspect of gameplay. Not only did they report the largest quantity of litter in their division, expanded their territory from the neighborhood of Fineview to the larger region of Pittsburgh’s Northside, recruiting star players and clearing large illegal dumpsites with coordination and speed.

With a record-breaking 29,172lbs of litter collected, the U. S. Steel River Raptors showcased the legendary collective effort of steelworkers. They targeted dumpsites around three Monongahela Valley mills and removed tons upon tons of tires, construction debris, and illegally dumped refuse from the land.

Penn Hills Litter Avengers
Despite numerous challenges to the health and availability of veteran players, The Litter Avengers continuously gathered community support throughout the season attracting new players and sponsors to their cause. They completed every challenge and followed the rulebook to the letter, earning the Helper award for three years in a row.

Cleanup Artists
Most creative reuse of litter
The research division of U. S. Steel earned the Cleanup Artist award for collecting over 100 lbs of littered steel, melting it, rolling it into a sheet and transforming it into a metal trash can bearing the logos of Friends of the Riverfront and Allegheny CleanWays

Northside 412 Redder Uppers
The Northside team created more reports than any other team, often including G.P.S. coordinates and anecdotal evidence about the source of the litter. When coordinating the removal of troublesome illegal dumpsites, they communicated with their local authorities and provoked deeper questioning about the long term strategies towards a cleaner environment
