SUMMARY:Lock Through Class with 3ROC
DESCRIPTION:Want to expand your river navigation skills by learning to lock through one of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lock & Dams in the Pittsburgh pool? \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin 3ROC and Friends of the Riverfront on the Three Rivers Water Trail for the third lock through paddle experience from the 3ROC Outpost in Aspinwall to Sharpsburg! We’ll depart from the 3ROC Outpost in Allegheny RiverTrail Park and lock through Lock & Dam 2 before finishing our paddle at the James Sharp Landing at Sharpsburg. Shuttles will be provided to bring paddlers and their kayaks back to the 3ROC Outpost. \nThis session is designed for paddlers at an intermediate experience level. All paddlers should have some experience paddling a kayak on their own and a basic knowledge of river safety. \nBefore getting on the water\, we will discuss safety\, the process of Locking Through\, and explore a bit of the science around how locks work. \nRegistration is required and is only $5\, thanks to a generous grant from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council to reduce the barriers to participation and provide an inclusive and accessible event that promotes confidence in paddlers to plan or even lead longer sojourns on the river!\nBring your own kayak\, or rent one from 3ROC through their website! \nIn the event of a weather related cancellation\, a rain date will be provided.
