DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Riverfront for another Train on the Water Trail session and explore the Allegheny River!  \n\nPenn State Extension’s Master Watershed Steward Program will lead an in-person education session where participants will learn about the importance of our riparian areas and watersheds and the role they play\, followed by a short paddle along the Allegheny River at the Three Rivers Water Trail Launch in Springdale\, PA. Participants with their own kayak or canoes are encouraged to bring them; Friends will provide seats in one of our kayaks or canoes for those that do not have their own! SUMMARY:Train on the Trail - Aquatic Species & River Health
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Riverfront for a special Train on the Water Trail program and explore Plum Creek!  \n\nCreek Connections will be sharing their knowledge of freshwater ecosystems and demonstrate how aquatic species monitoring helps inform conservation and restoration efforts throughout the region. Participants will learn how scientists\, educators\, and conservationists use aquatic insects\, fish\, and other freshwater organisms as indicators of water quality. Through hands-on exploration and guided discussion\, we’ll discover the connections between aquatic species\, habitat conditions\, and the overall health of our watershed. \n\nPlease wear closed-toe shoes that stay securely on your feet and that you do not mind getting wet. Shoes should provide adequate protection and traction for walking and wading on the creek bottom. Sandals\, flip-flops\, Crocs\, and other loose-fitting footwear are not recommended. Monitor the forecast and dress for the weather. Bring a reusable water bottle\, water refills will be available. This FREE event is to celebrate a space along the trail meant for art\, expression\, and community.
