This year, we have two wonderful interns working with us! Get to know them a little below.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, and any interests or goals that you have.

My name is Trevor, and I am a senior Environmental Studies major at Pitt.  I am really interested in working in the nonprofit sector in the Pittsburgh area, specifically organizations with environmentally driven missions.  After my graduation from Pitt in the spring, I aspire to work full time for an organization of this nature.  Outside of work, I am really interested in music and enjoy playing the guitar, and I like playing baseball, as well.

How did you get involved with Friends, and what is your role here?

About two months ago, I became involved with Friends as a Policy and Outreach Intern through looking for an internship to work throughout my final semester at Pitt.  When looking at organizations to work for, I knew Friends would be right for me because of how closely I align with their mission.

What’s your favorite way to use the Three Rivers Heritage Trail?

My favorite way to use the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is to go running in the summertime, especially on the south side segment of the trail.

What do you hope to gain out of your experience here at Friends?

Through my experience with Friends, I hope to gain insight and experience of how a successful nonprofit organization operates, and I am excited to be engaging with the community at public-facing events and working to advocate for trail development.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, and any interests or goals that you have.

I am a native of Pittsburgh and will be graduating this semester in Environmental Studies with a certificate in Sustainability. I am really interested in Environmental Justice. After graduation, my goal is to secure a career in the environmental/ sustainability realm.

How did you get involved with Friends, and what is your role here?

I got in touch with Courtney and Katie via Handshake and got hired as an intern for the Trail Development team.

What’s your favorite way to use the Three Rivers Heritage Trail?

I grew up a short drive from the Millvale Riverfront trail that leads into the North Shore. I have always loved running along this trail and have been doing so for years. Nothing beats the beauty of the scenery changing from thick trees to the view of the city along the river.
I have also used part of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail along the GAP on my bike journey from Pittsburgh to DC.

What do you hope to gain out of your experience here at Friends?

At Friends, I hope to gain more insight into the inner workings of a non-profit and learn how to be a part of a successful team. I am excited for the opportunity here at Friends to give back to local communities by providing accessible riverfront and water trails for all to enjoy.
