2023 Season Awards

Overall Champion

Highest total points

Northside 412 Redder Uppers

Earning 10 points on the season, The 412 Redder Uppers excelled in every aspect of gameplay.  Not only did they report the largest quantity of litter in their division,  expanded their territory from the neighborhood of Fineview to the larger region of Pittsburgh’s Northside, recruiting star players and clearing large illegal dumpsites with coordination and speed.

Heavy Lifters

Most litter by weight

With a record-breaking 29,172lbs of litter collected, the U. S. Steel River Raptors showcased the legendary collective effort of steelworkers. They targeted dumpsites around three Monongahela Valley mills and removed tons upon tons of tires, construction debris, and illegally dumped refuse from the land.

Prize: Summer hats and stickers from Patagonia Pittsburgh

Helpers

Most inspirational

Penn Hills Litter Avengers

Despite numerous challenges to the health and availability of veteran players, The Litter Avengers continuously gathered community support throughout the season attracting new players and sponsors to their cause. They completed every challenge and followed the rulebook to the letter, earning the Helper award for three years in a row.

Prize: Unbreakable Pint Cups and free boat rentals from Three Rivers Outdoor Co

Cleanup Artists

Most creative reuse of litter

The research division of U. S. Steel earned the Cleanup Artist award for collecting over 100 lbs of littered steel, melting it, rolling it into a sheet and transforming it into a metal trash can bearing the logos of Friends of the Riverfront and Allegheny CleanWays

Prize: Tickets to the Mattress Factory Museum

Archivists

Most litter reports generated

Northside 412 Redder Uppers

The Northside team created more reports than any other team, often including G.P.S. coordinates and anecdotal evidence about the source of the litter. When coordinating the removal of troublesome illegal dumpsites, they communicated with their local authorities and provoked deeper questioning about the long term strategies towards a cleaner environment
