Cyclists and runners know that today, there is no direct way to get from the Hazelwood segment of the Three Rivers Heritage trail to the Duck Hollow segment, and the Duck Hollow trail effectively ends not far past the Duck Hollow parking lot on the Monongahela River.
But that’s going to change soon. Friends of the Riverfront, the nonprofit that develops and maintains the trail is in the design part of connecting these trail segments – and taking the riverside trail all the way to the National Historic Site of the Carrie Blast Furnaces, maintained by Rivers of Steel! Carrie Furnace is a popular destination for outdoor and arts events, and is the future home of a water launch that will be part of Friends’ other area trail, the Three Rivers Water Trail.
