Join the History Center for a nature walk along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail to discover and document Pittsburgh’s biodiversity as part of the City Nature Challenge.
A family-friendly activity for all ages, the City Nature Challenge is an international initiative that encourages communities to collaborate and share observations of nature across the globe.
Taking part in the Challenge’s “bioblitz” is easy! After spotting wildlife and plants, participants will take pictures using the iNaturalist app and upload their observations for documentation and identification.
Friends of the Riverfront will join the nature walk to help identify species and share the history of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail.p Please dress appropriately and bring water bottles. A smartphone or tablet is also highly recommended for participants.
Schedule:
- 12 p.m. – Meet outside the History Center, under the goal posts on Smallman near 11th
- 12:10 p.m. – Introductions and overview
- 12:20 p.m. – Walk to Three Rivers Heritage Trail
- 12:30-1:45 p.m. – Nature walk from the Rachel Carson Bridge to 16th Street Bridge
- 2:00 PM – Return to the History Center
- 2:30 PM – Guided tour for participants
