Saturday May 27th, 2023
Session 1- 10am – 11:30am
Session 2 – 12:00pm – 1:30pmWhat does it take to clean up Pittsburgh’s Riverfronts, after years of legacy pollution along our rivers? Join us at the Carnegie Science Center and along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail for a day of action- We will casually walk along the riverfront picking up litter, while we discuss how science plays a critical role in repairing and restoring the land. We will discuss soil and plant science, river riparian zone Ecology, plant identification, invasive species, and the do’s and don’ts of edible & medicinal weeds wildcrafting when removing invasives.
The walk and talk will end with an opportunity for participants to help to conduct a soil and plant experiment in the field, where we will measure both the soil and invasive plant tissue itself for heavy metals as well as test invasive plant tissue for Vitamin C content. Everything you need to participate in this event will be provided! Dress in comfortable walking attire, ready for the weather. Rain or Shine! This event is free – all ages and families are welcome!
