Geology Bike Tour with Fred Zelt and Friends

October 5, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

$10 – $30
See Eventbrite for full description.   This event will help participants understand how geology and climate have shaped Pittsburgh landscapes. First we will ride the Duquesne Incline to the top of scenic Mt. Washington where geologist Fred Zelt will speak about geology, climate and Pittsburgh landscapes. We will then return to the banks of the Ohio River where we will start a leisurely 14-mile bicycle excursion on riverfront trails along the Monongahela River, with only a short segment on roadways. The cycling excursion will take us to Point State Park, the historic Smithfield Street and Hot Metal bridges, the Bald Eagle viewing area at Hays, and Station Square. We will stop frequently at scenic overlooks and historic spots. We will start and end in the large parking lot near the bottom of the Duquesne Incline between West Carson Street and the Ohio River.
